Pierre KIHN spent one year in Kansas City (MO) USA as foreign exchange student as a senior student and studied chemical engineering at the University of Louvain in Belgium from which graduated with honors in 1988.

His first professional experience was with Shell Petroleum Company where Pierre was responsible for the technical assistance concnerning lubricants and for the sale of chemicals in Luxembourg.

He joined Office Freylinger, a patent and trademark attorney firm in 1992. He passed the European Qualifying Examination and is admitted to practice before the European Patent Office (EPO), the Luxembourg Patent Office (LPO), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO)  in Alicante (ES), the Benelux Trademark and Design Office (BOIP) and the WIPO. Pierre further represented clients before the Austrian, German, Belgium, French, UK and Irish Patent and Trademark Offices.

Since February 2009, he is the CEO of Office Freylinger.

Pierre KIHN handled patent work related in particular to the chemical, pharmaceutical, environmental, steelmaking, satellite communication, process engineering and mechanical field. He was further involved in a number of opposition proceedings and pleaded cases before Opposition Divisions and Board of Appeals of the European Patent Office (EPO) as well as before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) . Pierre also coordinated infringement cases in the United States of America, in Canada, in the United Kingdom, in Germany and in Italy.

He is versed in preparing legal agreements in the IP-field, more specifically, secrecy agreements, cooperation and license agreements

Pierre KIHN regularly gave lectures on IP-Law subjects to bachelor and Master students at the University of Luxembourg as well as in an MBA course of ICN (Nancy, France).

Pierre KIHN is a co-author of the book "Intellectual Property in Luxembourg – Vademecum" published in French and in English by Promocultur-Larcier.

Between February 2009 and October 2021, Pierre KIHN was the CEO/managing partner of Office Freylinger. Pierre retired on 31.7.2022.

Pierre KIHN is married to Annick since 1988 and is the father of three grown children.

Pierre is a passionate beekeeper and loves to talk about his bees.
